Quick answer: Frostrail is a Windows PC survival FPS from FakeFish and Shiro Unlimited, coming to Steam Early Access in Q4 2026 for 1-4 players. There is no price yet, no console version yet, and no confirmed crossplay. A free demo ran during Steam Next Fest, October 19-26, 2026.

When does Frostrail come out? Early Access is scheduled for Q4 2026 on Steam. No specific day has been announced. The full 1.0 release has no date at all. See release date and Early Access for the complete timeline.
How much will Frostrail cost? Unknown. The Steam page has no price and no pre-order. Any site quoting a price is guessing. Expect an Early Access price with a launch discount, but that is convention, not confirmation.
Is Frostrail co-op? Yes. It supports solo play and online co-op for up to four players through Steam. There is no PvP. Dedicated servers and public matchmaking are unconfirmed. Roles that work are covered in co-op.
Does Frostrail have crossplay? Not confirmed. The game is PC-only at Early Access launch, and consoles are planned only after 1.0. Crossplay has never been mentioned by the developers.
Is Frostrail on PS5 or Xbox? Not yet. FakeFish's FAQ says console versions will be evaluated after the 1.0 release. There is no PlayStation or Xbox store page.
Does Frostrail work on Steam Deck or Linux? Unverified. Only Windows is listed on Steam. The developers described Linux as "tentative yes" because one of them works on Linux, but said Mac and Linux support can only be confirmed at release. There is no Steam Deck compatibility rating.
How long is the demo? The demo covers the tutorial station, a village and a short bunker — a single session's worth of objectives rather than a long campaign slice. Can I save in the demo? No save system was exposed in the demo build. Sessions start from a new campaign with an optional seed, and progress does not persist. Persistent progression is an announced Early Access feature, not a demo one.
Is Frostrail like Barotrauma? Same studio lineage, different game. FakeFish made Barotrauma, and several team members worked on it, but Frostrail is a first-person survival game on a train rather than a 2D submarine simulator. What carries over is the co-op pressure: one shared vehicle, subsystems that fail, and a crew that has to communicate.
What engine is Frostrail built on? Unreal Engine 5, confirmed in the developers' April 2025 FAQ.

How many enemy types are there? One in the demo: the Revenant. The developers called them cannon fodder for something worse and promised new variants in the Spring 2026 update. No other enemy has been named or shown. See enemies.
Is there base building? Yes, but your base moves. You build inside train carriages: walls, doors, chests, heaters, sorting tables, workbenches. There is no fixed plot of land. Layout plans are in train upgrades.
Do I need to manage fuel and heat? Constantly. The Eden Engine burns wood, heats the cab and connected carriages, and stops the train if it runs dry. Heat only works in sealed spaces, so a missing wall makes a heater useless. Start with Eden Engine upkeep.
Is Frostrail pay-to-win or live-service? No indication of either. It is a premium single-purchase Early Access game with no announced microtransactions, battle pass or always-online requirement. Co-op is host-based in the demo.
Will there be mod support? The developers said full modding like Barotrauma's is not planned. That does not rule out Steam Workshop support later, but nothing has been promised.
