Frostrail system requirements from Steam: Windows 10 64-bit, 16 GB RAM and RTX 3060 minimum, 32 GB and RTX 4060 recommended, 25 GB storage.
Frostrail System Requirements: Minimum and Recommended
Quick answer: Frostrail is a 64-bit Windows 10 game with a 25 GB install. The Steam page lists 16 GB RAM plus a GeForce RTX 3060 or Radeon RX 5600 XT as the minimum, and 32 GB RAM plus an RTX 4060 or RX 7600 as recommended. There is no macOS or Linux build listed, and no Steam Deck verification yet.
These are the requirements published on the official Steam store page for Frostrail (app 3517740). We quote them as written, including the truncated AMD CPU name in the recommended tier.

Minimum requirements
| Component | Requirement |
|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 64-bit |
| Processor | Intel i7 6700K or AMD Ryzen 5 5500 |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | GeForce RTX 3060 or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT |
| Storage | 25 GB available space |
| Additional | Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system |
Recommended requirements
| Component | Requirement |
|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 64-bit |
| Processor | Intel i5 11400T or AMD Ryzen 5 (model truncated on the store page) |
| Memory | 32 GB RAM |
| Graphics | GeForce RTX 4060 or AMD Radeon RX 7600 |
| Storage | 25 GB available space |
What these numbers actually mean
- The minimum GPU is unusually high for an indie game. An RTX 3060 as the floor, not the recommendation, tells you this is an Unreal Engine 5 title with heavy snow, volumetric lighting and a lot of dynamic light sources. FakeFish confirmed Unreal Engine 5 in the April 2025 FAQ.
- 16 GB is the real floor, 32 GB is the comfortable tier. The demo runs on 16 GB systems, but the recommended 32 GB suggests larger maps and more co-op players will want headroom.
- 25 GB is small for a modern survival game. That is roughly the demo plus a launch slice; expect Early Access updates to grow it.
- The recommended CPU line is truncated. The store page literally lists "AMD Ryzen 5" without a model number, alongside an i5 11400T. Do not read a specific Ryzen tier into it.
Platform support
| Platform | Status |
|---|---|
| Windows | Confirmed, the only listed platform |
| macOS | Not listed |
| Linux / SteamOS | Not listed; developers called it "tentative yes" in the 2025 FAQ, to be confirmed at release |
| Steam Deck | Unverified; no Deck compatibility rating yet |
| PlayStation 5 / Xbox Series | Planned after the 1.0 release, per the 2025 FAQ |
The Linux answer is worth quoting precisely: FakeFish said Linux support was "tentative yes" because a developer works on Linux, but that Mac and Linux support could only be confirmed at release. That is not a promise.
Can my PC run the demo?
The demo is the cheapest benchmark you will ever get, and it is free while the Steam Next Fest window is open (Frostrail's demo runs to October 26, 2026). Practical guidance:
- Laptop with integrated graphics — expect it not to launch or to run in the low teens. Below the floor.
- GTX 1660 / RX 580 class — below minimum, but the demo may still boot. Try before buying.
- RTX 3060 / RX 5600 XT — the intended minimum. Expect 1080p at moderate settings.
- RTX 4060 / RX 7600 with 32 GB — the recommended tier, comfortable at 1080p and probably 1440p.
Frostrail's settings menu in the demo exposes resolution, quality presets and a few toggles; there is no built-in benchmark. The heaviest scenes are the open snowfield with the headlight on and the bunker interiors with torch light.
Performance tips for the demo
- Lower volumetric and shadow quality first. Snow and headlight shafts are the expensive parts.
- Cap the frame rate. A survival game with a fuel timer does not need 144 fps.
- Close the browser. 16 GB systems are running the game near the OS ceiling.
- Play solo to test stability. Co-op adds network cost on top of the GPU load.
Will Early Access requirements change?
FakeFish has not said. The store page has carried these requirements since the demo period, and Early Access is scheduled for Q4 2026. The realistic expectation: the minimum stays, the recommended may rise as more carriages, enemies and biomes are added.
Check release date and Early Access for timing, and the FAQ for price, platforms and language support.
FAQ
Can my PC run Frostrail? Check the minimum: Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel i7-6700K or AMD Ryzen 5 5500, 16 GB of RAM, a GeForce RTX 3060 or Radeon RX 5600 XT and 25 GB of storage. The recommended tier doubles the RAM to 32 GB and asks for an RTX 4060 or RX 7600.
Is Frostrail on Mac or Linux? Not officially. Steam lists Windows only, and the developers have called Linux a tentative yes for later while Mac and Linux support will only be confirmed at release.
How big is the download? The store page lists 25 GB of available space for both minimum and recommended, so plan for roughly that before Early Access, when the build will likely grow.
